  • Watching: Dr. House
  • Playing: 9Dragons, Lineage2! Best games ever!

WARNING: This journal entry IS mean and mercy-less!

I'll put up a provoking and almost unacceptable subject here.
I hope as many of you as possible share with me your two cents! Hopefully this journal might attract many Naruto-fans and Naruto-haters to an epic discussion about this! That's my goal.

Naruto as a stolen idea on a massive scale! With stolen I mean that it takes over you guys, and you get hung up on stealing those characteristics against your will.
Will the real art disappear in this pile of fan laying around forever? Doesn't have to be Naruto, even though it's the most uploaded character on dA in my eyes.

We all know that Naruto fans are visiting other Naruto fans to look for inspiration for their next Naruto fan-pictures.

What happens then?

..yes, that I'll tell you.
They automatically enters the bad bad circle which makes new ideas about to blossom disappear in the pile of fan-art that's not really supposed to make it to the front page. The very same pile I mentioned earlier. With all those people visiting each other because it's such a famous character, gives each other fame.. with some sort of Deja Vu effect almost. ("Didn't my friend show me these places on his account too..? hmm..")
But.. Who deserve fame the most? The guy with his own idea, or the Picture to honor Naruto?

You might wonder.. what about winnie the pooh? I'm sure people are misusing winnie the pooh too, right? Or houses? People draw houses all the time! They're so badly stealing that house idea! Oh God! Or dresses! Maybe chairs too? Jesus! (I might be misusing the Spanish word for chair, but that's another matter.)

People talk as if If real objects or Naruto was the entire content of this world! We got another important little something to take in consideration! OUR imagination! Not hubba-Bubba, that made Naruto. Sorry, I don't even wanna try to pronounce that name! It would be an epic failure. But I bet some of you will surely care about my mistaking of names. Because it's spread like a disease throughout this society of artists that this very person stays known to all, as if compared to Jesus. Call me an atheist, but I have to compare this obsession with the bible. People would kill others that didn't accept the bible and the Christian beliefs. With this journal I might get the same fate as Atheists when the bible was such a mercy-less force. I'm not the professional person on history, but it was many hundreds of years ago, gentlemen!

[added]
I heard that "All ideas is about to be used". I've heard that from so many! many many! And every single one of them is working on their very own ideas. They see what fanatics don't see. With all this obsession on a single theme is narrowing down the list of ideas a person can have and making that person believe that this is the only thing he/she can do. looking at yourself as that fantastic fan-artist gives you limits. You're supposed to be famous for what you did, if you want to be famous and become famous. [/added]

It's not yours. You've seen so incredibly much Naruto that you've been obsessed. I'm saying that only to be sincere. You WANT your art to be like hubba-bubba's, even though you are you and will always be. Everyone know deep inside if their art should feel hit. Others don't see it themselves, but you've based your own characters on what someone else is living and breathing every day in a villa in japan to maintain that amount of money. I'm utterly disappointed! Just to make it all a tad bit worse. you take credit for it.. you Brag and SELL it yourself. My level of disappointment is rising.

When will you guys come back to reality that you actually are a part of? When will you break down the brickwall that is keeping you from creating something to be proud of calling 100% yours?
You can be defending every point of view! But this is so wrong that you'll be failing no matter what. And I cannot say enough that I'm going after the unfair consideration of what's really art, and not the artists behind all the artworks.

If you litterally make a naruto character and add a little twist, then call it your own creation! Then I'm disappointed in you! If you fill your entire gallery with that character, then I die in disappointment!

To all of you that feel like you that can read above and compare it to your gallery. Please take the challenge I hereby give you. Sit down somewhere. Block out all other thoughts and draw/paint/write/photoshop-paint something to show the world that is absolutely your idea. Doesn't even have to be human! Everything that matters is the Naruto-disease might let go of you, and you find the very idea that can blossom!

[NEW]
Show me that I'm wrong about this society of artists! Upload something as original as you possibly can. If you can show me an Original Character without the "Naruto", "Bleach", "Famous anime in general" in front of those simple words, then you'll be impressing many, including me! And I'll show of in my journal that you can.

~Silla

Av en eller annen grunn trodde jeg du var en Naruto Fan

Syns Bleach er bedre jeg

Syns det er ganske irriterende når folk bare tracer bildene, og likevel så blir de populære :(

(I can't understand why people don't post comment in English, considering that the great majority of the deviants registered in this community understand solely English, the journal was posted in english and that it's very rude. But, whatever. Maybe whatever the person said aren't really worthy a translation....)

While I find it nice that people display their appreciation for certain cartoon/anime/tv show though fan-art, I can't help but to feel bothered to see that people are getting known not because of their efforts in make original art, but because they simply and merely copy something already famous. They doesn't even care in develop their own style, they simply take illustration and copy expression, poses, etc. There's nothing of art when you simply copy. If you point out something bad about it, they take it as personal and will even turn rude on you. While they're forgetting that it's healthy to like something, but at the same time they claim for people to respect their way to be, they should respect people's opinions.

If you check fanart from professional artists, you'll notice they don't copy the original style, they simply draw the characters in their own. Because a real artist don't want to be known as someone who "resemble that other famous artist", he wants to be known for his own efforts in create his own style, that will mark him as something different from everybody. When you simply copy, you are simply copying. There's nothing new, there's nothing yours.

And I'm not saying fan-art if bad. No no no. I'm saying that "COPY just because" is bad. Ripped off art-style shouldn't make it's way to the front page. It's only stealing space from people who have something original to show.

"Who deserve fame the most? The guy with his own idea, or the Picture to honor Naruto?"

So just beecuase you've seen the charcter before the piece of art you've been wokring on for days is not really yours and not really art? So you don't deserve any fame at all?
Even though everything else got nothing to do with Naruto at all? "And most artists don't even care about the fame" : :iconevanangle:
No one deserves fame more than others it's just that some themes are more attractive to certan persons than others. And if that is Naruto so be it, if it was Bleack you've would been ranting about Bleach instead.

"It's not yours. You've seen so incredibly much Naruto that you've been obsessed."

How can you say it's not yours? It's not like they traced a screenshot or anything. Everything about the picture is something you've planned. You planned to draw naruto in that pose with that background and that foreground doing whatever he does. People are fully able to choose what to draw, Naruto is not a "wall" standing in the way of their imagination. It's something some people choose to pick up on the way. I enjoy Naruto, but that doesn't mean I can't draw anything else because a huge Naruto monster is eating my brain. It's something I choose with my own free will to draw when I feel like it or I may draw anything else like say a creature.

"I'm utterly disappointed! Just to make it all a tad bit worse. you take credit for it.. you Brag and SELL it yourself. My level of disappointment is rising"

Now everyone on dA obeys the copyright law. No one ever said they made up the entire Naruto plot. You can't look down at the people selling their fan art. They're only selling it because people are willing to buy for it and like you ART your STYLE, not becuase of the characters.

"When will you guys come back to reality that you actually are a part of?"

Soooo drawing dragons and aliens and fanatsy creatures is all wrong because it's not part of reality? Come on, art is way beyond reality!

who likes reality anyway? >.>

"When will you break down the brickwall that is keeping you from creating something to be proud of calling 100% yours?"

Nothing is 100% yours. Everything you draw is a product of something you've seen before.

"If you litterally make a naruto character and add a little twist, then call it your own creation! Then I'm disappointed in you! If you fill your entire gallery with that character, then I die in disappointment!"

how little of a twist are we talking about? chaning the hair color or eye color? yes then I agree. A shorter skirt then an already made outfit, yes then I agree. But if you can cleary see that the person sat down and thought everything through. The hair style the clothing everything! The only thing that reminds you of any naruto character is the headband then I disagree.

That would be like...let's use Nacht as an example since you know him so well and say, "Hey that hand is like Edward Scissorhans, you can't draw that it's not art, it's not 100% yours."

....

"That would be like...let's use Nacht as an example since you know him so well and say, "Hey that hand is like Edward Scissorhans, you can't draw that it's not art, it's not 100% yours."

Ok ok... now I'll pronounce....

Nacht story has nothing to with Edward's, that's a fact. You can't even talk about. The gloves aren't anything new, if you search a bit you'll find out that gauntlets with claws are a well known weapon and if you check for Edward's hands you'll see that it hardly look like Nacht's. You could even want to say they're like Freddy Crugger's, which would please me too If to say about the look, you could talk about Nacht's gothic style. Which is the same line of style used by Tim Burton on his Edward Scissorhands.

It's 100% mine because the plot aren't related to any other. The clothing style is nothing but a touch of a pseudo punk-goth stylish. The claw gloves aren't but a well known weapon. I'm repeating it here because people seems to ignore what's convenient, so, to make sure it won't be ignored, I'll type again.

And when yo INTENTIONALLY made something that will force people to think about another, it's called REFERENCE. When you use elements from third party's work, claiming to be on your agenda even before you seeing the professional work, it has another name. If to be unfair, anybody can be unfair.

Wanna a nice and TRUE example of an original character that ended up having a twin brother on a famous work, I can talk about that movie about that crazy superhero, disguised in green, that comedy movie, whose name scape me right now. I had an OC that everybody here pointed to look like him, the detail is that my OC was made some years before the movie. Wanna I link? I have a link: [link] . AH! The movie's name is "Superhero Movie".

So, please, don't use Nacht as an example of "rip off", because I take a lot of care to NOT end up COPYING. Frankly, now it's me the one disappointed here.

I'm trying to understand what you're upset about. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it basically boils down to fanart ya? This seems to be a common argument on DA for similar reasons, especially when the DA popular section was redone. Oh my gosh... that was a cow and a half!

I don't think you're the atheist either. You have just as much right to what you believe as everyone else does, and don't worry I'm not going to kill you if you don't believe in Jesus, even if I'm Christian. =P I'm proud that you express yourself without hesitation! Sometimes that takes guts.

As for my thoughts on fanart and its way of overtaking me -- I'll be the first to admit that yesh I do love drawing fanart. It's pretty dominant in my art, and mainly because it inspires me the most. I can watch or read something good and have the craving to do some art the way I want of it.
I do have "original" art too, but it's not like I have to post everything I have on DA. ;) Like now my sister and I are plotting a story about ourselves! It's pretty fun, but I probably won't be posting that here after realizing how long DTA has taken... oh my gosh I will never do a comic on DA again! D: haha well, hopefully that's not true, but that's just how I feel.
~Haine-Rammsteiner:iconHaine-Rammsteiner: May 14, 2008, 7:19:48 AM
I believe what she meant is that the fan-art is a way for people to show their appreciation for a third party's work. But it's wrong to go and get a hold of it as yours and make fame using someone else's hard work.

Ahh, well I can understand that. So for profit right? That would be illegal. I know some people make prints on here, but I don't think that's smart. In the case of Naruto, if Kishi really wanted to, he could crack down on that, but at the same time it would be difficult since Naruto is all over the place.

If fame means getting on the frontpage, well that would be even harder for fanartists to do now with the way they've redone the popular, but can't be too against the artist since it's really the mass crowd that favors it. I understand the frustration, but that's just the way the majority of the DA crowd is.

Since I replied to you... maybe Silla will see this if she scrolls down the replies. hehe ^^:
~Haine-Rammsteiner:iconHaine-Rammsteiner: May 14, 2008, 8:22:00 AM
He is a homage to Tim Burton, as a fan, I never tried to hide it. But he is not a rip off =/ That's what I said here. Don't take things personal, it's just an exposition of ideas. And if you read carefully, what Silla-chan is saying is something that doesn't lack in truth, not aimed at anybody in special, but to this problem as a whole. So, be cool. Nobody wants to fight. And two are friends and I hope you won't go upset at her. Instead, we all should be happy because our silla is defending something she believes, regardless the consequences. Here I'm all proud.
